Montgomery County’s annual “Give and Ride” Food Drive will return from May 22 through May 31, with residents encouraged to donate non-perishable food items aboard County Ride On buses and at locations across the County.
The effort is a partnership between the Montgomery County Department of Transportation and Manna Food Center aimed at helping address food insecurity in Montgomery County. According to Manna Food Center, more than 34% of County residents are currently facing food insecurity, an increase from 27% in 2023.
Food donations can be dropped off on Ride On, extRa, Flex, and Flash buses, which remain free for all riders. Additional collection sites include participating Montgomery County Public Libraries, County office buildings in Rockville, and Manna Food Center locations in Gaithersburg and Silver Spring.
Manna Food Center said the organization distributed more than three million pounds of food to more than 56,000 people last year through its network of food distribution programs and community partnerships.
Officials said high-need donation items include instant oatmeal, brown rice, whole grain pasta, canned tuna, beans, shelf-stable milk, cooking oils, and spices.
