Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning on northbound Interstate 270 near Shady Grove Road in Montgomery County.
According to investigators, 60-year-old Daniel Edward Gannon of Rockville, the driver of a Volkswagen EOS, was pronounced dead at the scene by Montgomery County emergency medical services personnel. No other injuries were reported.
Shortly before 7:30 am, troopers from the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack responded to the area for a reported crash involving a tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle. The preliminary investigation indicates the tractor-trailer had become immovable in the roadway when, for reasons still under investigation, the Volkswagen struck the rear of the truck.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the active and ongoing investigation.
