“Best Burger in the DMV” Draws Massive Crowds For Opening Day

Steeze Burger’s long-awaited first brick-and-mortar location officially opened its doors at 12141 Darnestown Rd. in Gaithersburg on Sunday, May 24, and the response was immediate, with lines stretching down the block (video below).

The smash burger concept, founded by Laytonsville resident Hunter Karametos, first launched as a pop-up in 2022 and quickly developed a devoted following across the DMV. That momentum carried over to opening day, as customers packed the Shops at Potomac Valley shopping center to get their first taste of Steeze Burger’s permanent home.

Steeze Burger was previously ranked the number one burger in the DMV by The Washington Post and, more recently, our “11 Burgers That Stand Out in Montgomery County” helping fuel anticipation for the restaurant’s debut storefront.

The menu mirrors the offerings that made the pop-up popular, including single, double, and triple smash burgers, chili cheese dogs, grilled cheese sandwiches, fries, soda, and multiple Mountain Dew flavors. Burgers are served on sesame seed buns with pickles, onions, and the restaurant’s signature Steeze sauce. The restaurant also plans to introduce loaded cheese fries and rotating burger specials in the future.

The restaurant is initially operating Wednesday through Sunday, with plans to eventually expand to seven days a week. Steeze Burger is located at 12141 Darnestown Road in Gaithersburg. The space had previously been expected to become Kong Dog and was formerly home to Neal’s Bagels before the bagel shop relocated to Kentlands.
