The back-to-back state champion Clarksburg Coyotes girls flag football team recently received its championship rings during a special ceremony at Northwest Stadium.
In a post shared by Clarksburg Coyotes Athletics, the program thanked the Washington Commanders and former NFL star Gary Clark for helping celebrate the occasion. “Our back-to-back State Champion Flag Football team received their championship rings today at Northwest Stadium,” the program wrote. “A huge shout out and thank you to the Washington Commanders and 2x Super Bowl champion Gary Clark for being there!”
The event also highlighted the continued growth of girls flag football across the DMV, a movement heavily supported by the Commanders organization. According to the Commanders, the team currently supports 127 girls flag football teams throughout the region through funding, equipment donations, training resources, and program support aimed at expanding access to the sport.
“We are proud to support the expansion of this sport through monetary contributions and equipment, resources and trainings,” the organization said. “Our commitment to creating equitable access to participation and a sustainable pathway to program success continues, with expanded school participation coming in 2026.”
Girls flag football has seen explosive growth locally and nationally in recent years, with more schools adding programs and increased momentum toward broader varsity recognition.
