New Skate Park, Turf Field, And Fitness Area Planned For Long Branch Local Park

Montgomery Parks is inviting residents to help shape the future of Long Branch Local Park at 700 Langley Dr. in Silver Spring through a 30-day public comment period running from June 1 through June 30.

The park system is seeking feedback on a series of planned improvements designed to expand recreational opportunities, enhance safety, and modernize infrastructure throughout the park. Community members can submit comments online.

The renovation plans include a new park entrance off Langley Drive and an expanded parking lot aimed at improving access and traffic flow. A modern playground featuring seating areas, shade structures, and improved sightlines for safety is also proposed.

Additional amenities would include a picnic shelter, drinking fountain, bicycle parking, and additional trash receptacles. Recreational upgrades are a major focus of the project. Plans call for new enclosed soccer and basketball courts, a dedicated outdoor fitness area, a skate park with lighting, and a lighted synthetic turf soccer field that does not require infill.

To improve accessibility, Montgomery Parks plans to install a paved loop path connecting various areas of the park. New pedestrian lighting is also proposed to enhance visibility and safety. Environmental improvements are included as well, with stormwater management features and native plantings designed to support sustainability efforts.

“These improvements are the result of outreach we have been doing for the Long Branch Parks Initiative to address the park, recreation, and public space needs of the Long Branch area strategically and holistically,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks. “We’re excited to deliver expanded recreational opportunities while incorporating environmentally responsible design.”

Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2027. Video presentations about the updates are available in English and Spanish.
