Former NBA player Jeremy Lin is spending time in Montgomery County today, working out at JOOLA’s headquarters and training facility in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose (video below).
While many basketball fans remember Lin for one of the most unforgettable stretches in NBA history, he is now preparing for a new chapter in his basketball career. Lin officially retired from professional basketball in 2025 and recently joined ESPN as a studio analyst for its 2026 NBA Finals coverage.
An undrafted guard out of Harvard University, Lin became a global sports and cultural phenomenon during the 2011-12 NBA season with the New York Knicks. Thrust into the starting lineup due to injuries, he captivated the sports world during a magical run that became known as “Linsanity.”
Over the course of just a few weeks, Lin led the Knicks on a remarkable winning streak, scored 38 points against Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, hit a dramatic game-winning shot against Toronto, and helped revive New York’s playoff hopes. His unexpected rise became one of the most memorable stories in modern sports history.
Lin went on to play nine seasons in the NBA with several teams, including the Knicks, Houston Rockets, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Toronto Raptors. He earned an NBA championship ring with Toronto in 2019 before continuing his professional career overseas in China.
His visit to Montgomery County comes as the NBA Finals feature a storyline that local basketball fans are following closely. The New York Knicks, led in part by Silver Spring native and former Wheaton High School student Josh Hart, are facing the San Antonio Spurs in the championship series.
Now working on the broadcast side of the game, Lin will bring firsthand insight from his playing career to ESPN’s Finals coverage while spending time training at one of the area’s premier sports facilities.
