Ocean City officials are reminding residents and visitors that the town’s beach is closed overnight and cannot be occupied between 12am and 5am.
According to the police department, the overnight restriction is in place to allow Public Works crews to perform extensive beach maintenance while most visitors are asleep. During those hours, specialized equipment is used to clean all 10 miles of Ocean City’s beach, removing debris, leveling sand, and preparing the shoreline for the next day.
Officials say the work helps ensure the beach remains clean, safe, and welcoming for the thousands of residents and visitors who enjoy it each day during the busy summer season.
The town also used the reminder to recognize the efforts of Ocean City’s Public Works employees, who work throughout the night to maintain one of Maryland’s most popular destinations.
Visitors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with local regulations before heading to the beach and to respect the overnight closure to allow crews to safely complete their work. “Know the rules before you visit. Respect the community. Help us keep Ocean City safe and enjoyable for everyone,” officials said.
