Two MCPS Media Specialists Named Finalists for Maryland School Librarian of the Year

Two Montgomery County Public Schools media specialists have been named among the top 10 finalists for the 2026 Maryland School Librarian of the Year award, a statewide honor recognizing exemplary service and outstanding achievement in school library media programs.

MCPS shared that Alexandra Moses of Highland Elementary School and Daria Taylor of Clarksburg Elementary School were selected as finalists for the prestigious award, which is presented annually by the Maryland Association of School Librarians (MASL).

In addition to the two finalists, Laura Ellis of Wheaton High School and Melissa King of Flower Hill Elementary School were also nominated for the award, highlighting the strength of school library programs across Montgomery County.

The Maryland School Librarian of the Year award recognizes school librarians who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication to supporting student learning through library and media services.

To be considered for the award, nominees must be active members of the Maryland Association of School Librarians, currently serving as school librarians, and have held the position for at least three years.

The winner of the 2026 Maryland School Librarian of the Year award will be announced during the Maryland Association of School Librarians Conference in October.

The recognition places Moses and Taylor among the state’s most accomplished school library professionals and reflects the important role school librarians play in fostering literacy, research skills, and a love of learning among students.
