Off-Duty Deputy Helps Reunite Runaway Juvenile With Family

A Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputy is being recognized after helping reunite a runaway juvenile with their family while off duty.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Alente Horn was preparing to start his shift when he stopped at Chipotle and noticed a juvenile sitting alone. Concerned for the child’s well-being, Horn approached to check on them and offer assistance.

During the conversation, Horn learned the juvenile was lost and unable to get home. The child was later identified as a runaway and had been diagnosed with high-functioning autism.

Deputy Horn immediately contacted on-duty units and remained with the juvenile until additional deputies arrived. The child was ultimately reunited safely with their family.

The Sheriff’s Office praised Horn’s actions, noting that his willingness to step in while off duty demonstrated vigilance, professionalism, and dedication to serving the community.

“Deputy Horn’s willingness to act, even while off-duty, is a testament to his vigilance and valor,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The department congratulated Horn for his efforts and the positive outcome of the incident.
