The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) will implement new parking rates and hours for County-operated garages, lots, and street meters in Downtown Wheaton beginning July 1.
Under the changes approved by the Montgomery County Council as part of the FY27 budget, parking will be free on Saturdays, Sundays, and after 6 p.m. on weekdays.
Weekday parking rates will increase during paid hours, with County garage rates rising from $1 to $1.75 per hour, County lots increasing to $2 per hour, and on-street meters increasing from $1.25 to $2.50 per hour. The changes were based on recommendations from the Wheaton Urban District and a community survey in which the adopted option received support from more than 60% of respondents. Parking rates in Downtown Bethesda and Silver Spring will remain unchanged.
