Project Suya is officially celebrating the grand opening of its new Silver Spring restaurant this Saturday, marking the latest chapter for the family-owned business that began as a backyard venture before growing into a popular local food truck operation.
Located at 8777 1st Ave. in downtown Silver Spring, the restaurant opened in May and serves as the company’s first permanent brick-and-mortar location. According to Source of the Spring, Project Suya first launched a food truck in Bowie before expanding with additional trucks in Hyattsville and Silver Spring. The business also sells its signature spice blends online.
The restaurant is hosting a grand opening celebration on Saturday from 12pm to 10:30pm. Organizers are promising grand opening specials, giveaways, new menu items, music, and what they describe as an atmosphere focused on food, culture, and community.
In a social media announcement, the restaurant said guests can expect menu offerings including its signature suya, along with suya burgers, suya tacos, shawarma, wings, and additional specialty items.
The new restaurant occupies the space that was previously home to Mezcal Cantina, which permanently closed last November just months after opening. Prior to Mezcal Cantina, the location operated as Tacos Way Mexican Grill. Project Suya rebranded and transformed the space before opening its doors earlier this spring.
The grand opening takes place Saturday, June 13, at 8777 1st Ave. in Silver Spring.
