Metro Unveils America 250 Vehicle Wraps And Limited-Edition Smart Trip Cards

Metro is joining the nationwide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with the debut of special-edition vehicle wraps and commemorative Smart Trip cards on June 25.

As part of the “Celebrating America’s 250” initiative, Metro will unveil a specially wrapped train, three buses, and a MetroAccess vehicle. Riders will be able to track the vehicles in real time through Metro’s live map by selecting the “special edition” option.

In addition to the vehicle wraps, Metro will release 20,000 limited-edition America 250 Smart Trip cards beginning June 25. The commemorative cards will be available while supplies last at seven stations across the system:

  • Metro Center
  • L’Enfant Plaza
  • Navy Yard
  • Smithsonian
  • Union Station
  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
  • Washington Dulles International Airport

Riders looking to purchase one of the cards should check fare vending machines marked with special signage at participating stations.

The launch is part of preparations for the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026. The special Metro vehicles and Smart Trip cards are intended to highlight the Washington region’s role in the historic milestone while giving riders a collectible way to participate in the celebration.
