Montgomery County Police have arrested and charged 28-year-old Alexander Cleveland Hailey of White Oak in connection with an assault and kidnapping involving a Lyft driver in Silver Spring.
According to investigators, Hailey entered the rideshare vehicle on May 24 and allegedly displayed a handgun, ordering the driver to continue driving.
Police said the driver stopped the vehicle and fled in the 8500 block of Piney Branch Road. Hailey then exited the vehicle and left the area, allegedly leaving behind evidence that helped detectives identify him as a suspect. An arrest warrant was issued on May 28, and Hailey was taken into custody the following day on Colesville Road. He has been charged with kidnapping, first-degree assault and related offenses.
