Metro riders should prepare for several service adjustments this weekend due to the Juneteenth holiday on Friday, June 19, Capital Pride events throughout Washington, D.C., and systemwide bus service changes taking effect Sunday, June 21.
Metro also announced that previously scheduled track work related to construction of the second entrance at Crystal City Station has been canceled after crews completed the work ahead of schedule.
For Juneteenth on Friday, Metro Rail will operate on a weekend schedule, though weekday fares will remain in effect. Trains will run during normal operating hours, and Metro-owned parking garages and lots will be free to use, as they are on holidays and weekends.
Metro Bus will operate on a Saturday Supplemental schedule on Friday. Riders are encouraged to check their specific route schedules, as service levels may vary.
On Saturday, June 20, customers traveling to the Capital Pride Parade should expect larger crowds at stations throughout downtown Washington. Metro recommends using the Green or Yellow lines to U Street or Archives, or the Orange, Silver, and Blue lines to McPherson Square, Metro Center, or Federal Triangle for the shortest walks to the parade route along 14th Street NW.
The Pride Block Party on Saturday along 17th Street NW between P and Q streets is most easily accessed from the Dupont Circle station on the Red Line.
For the Pride Festival and Concert on Sunday, June 21, Metro recommends taking the Red Line to Judiciary Square or the Green and Yellow lines to Archives.
Several Metro Bus routes will be detoured Saturday due to parade-related street closures along 14th Street NW between T Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
In addition to the holiday and event-related changes, Metro will implement service updates on nearly 50 bus routes across Washington, Maryland, and Virginia beginning Sunday, June 21.
Metro Access customers can still reserve trips for the Juneteenth holiday, but regularly scheduled subscription trips will be canceled. Riders can make reservations online or by calling 301-562-5360. Regular Metro Access fares will remain in effect.
Metro advises customers to allow extra travel time throughout the weekend, particularly around Pride events where stations and trains are expected to be busier than normal.
