Teen Charged as Adult After Foot Chase Leads to Recovery of Loaded Ghost Gun

Montgomery County Police have arrested a 17-year-old male and charged him as an adult following a burglary investigation that led to the recovery of a loaded privately made firearm, commonly known as a “ghost gun.”

According to police, officers with the 3rd District Community Action Team were conducting proactive enforcement near Sligo Avenue and Fenton Street around 8:57 p.m. on Friday, June 19, when a resident reported that a group of individuals had entered a construction area within an apartment building and were gambling in a stairwell.

Officers responded and observed several individuals throwing dice with cash on the ground. As officers approached, one member of the group attempted to grab a satchel. An officer secured the bag and immediately recognized a firearm inside, police said.

The suspect fled the building, prompting a foot chase through the neighborhood. Officers later located him hiding underneath a vehicle in a nearby parking lot and took him into custody.

Police determined the weapon was a loaded 9mm privately made firearm. The teen was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with fourth-degree burglary, obstructing and hindering, and firearm-related offenses. He is being held without bond.
