Repo Company’s License Plate Reader Finds 2 Stolen Cars in Silver Spring

Early Friday morning, a car repossession company found 2 stolen vehicles in Silver Spring.

A stolen 2008 Cadillac Escalade was found parked in the 8700 block of Plymouth Street. A stolen 2005 Honda Civic found parked in the 8700 block of Milford Avenue. Both vehicles were parked and unoccupied.

The Repo Company’s truck was equipped with License Plate Readers, which automatically scan license plates looking for cars for repossession. License Plate Readers remotely alert local police (in this case the Montgomery County Police Central Auto Theft Section) for stolen vehicles and their GPS location.

Before License Plate Readers, license plates were manually typed into a computer search engine.
