After months of anticipation, UMI Sushi has announced that its second Maryland location will officially begin its soft opening on Wednesday, July 15, in Downtown Frederick.
The family-owned restaurant, which first opened in Ellicott City in May 2019, shared that expanding to Frederick has been both an exciting and challenging journey. “Preparing our second location has been a nerve-wracking but insightful journey that has allowed us to get to know better the wonderful community of Downtown Frederick,” the owners wrote. “It’s also come with its fair share of unexpected delays and learning curves.”
Originally targeting a May opening, the restaurant said unexpected setbacks pushed back its timeline, making the upcoming debut “a long time coming.” Located at 50 Citizen’s Way, the new UMI Sushi will welcome guests during its soft opening from 11am to 9:30pm on Wednesday, July 15.
To celebrate, the restaurant will offer:
- Exclusive merchandise for the first 50 customers.
- Complimentary sushi samples for all guests.
- Live music in the evening.
Known for its fresh sushi, modern atmosphere and attentive hospitality, UMI Sushi said the Frederick location represents an opportunity to bring the experience closer to customers who have traveled from across Maryland to visit the original Ellicott City restaurant. “What started in Ellicott City has grown into a second home,” the owners shared. “We’re so excited to finally expand our UMI family and bring the UMI experience to Frederick.”
