South Germantown Adventure Playground To Celebrate Grand Reopening July 18

After months of construction, the newly renovated South Germantown Adventure Playground is ready to welcome families back.

Montgomery Parks will host a special ribbon-cutting celebration on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 2pm to 4pm at the South Germantown Adventure Playground, located at 17920 Germantown Park Drive in Boyds. A rain date has been scheduled for Sunday, July 19, from 2pm to 4pm.

The celebration marks the completion of a major renovation project that began in December 2025, transforming one of Montgomery County’s most popular family destinations into a more inclusive and modern play space.

Originally opened in 2003, the 7-acre Adventure Playground became a regional attraction thanks to its themed play areas, climbing structures, slides, swings, maze, musical elements, and loop-style layout. After more than two decades of heavy use, Montgomery Parks undertook a comprehensive overhaul to update aging equipment while preserving the playground’s unique character.

The redesigned playground features inclusive, high-performance play areas for children of all ages and abilities, along with nature-based play elements, intergenerational recreation spaces, accessible pathways, expanded picnic areas, new seating and shade, updated signage, fitness and game areas, native landscaping, and improved stormwater management.

Located within the 695-acre South Germantown Recreational Park, the Adventure Playground has long been one of the county’s premier family destinations, attracting visitors from throughout Montgomery County and the greater Washington region.

Families are invited to attend the free ribbon-cutting celebration and be among the first to experience the reimagined playground.
