A married couple from the Dundalk/Baltimore area won the $500,000 top prize on a Maryland Lottery Gifts of Green scratch-off ticket after the husband asked his wife to buy that specific game while she was shopping.
According to MD Lottery, the husband had been checking the Maryland Lottery website and chose the game because it still had several top prizes remaining. After returning home and unpacking groceries, the couple scratched the tickets together, and the wife was stunned to discover the winning $500,000 prize.
The couple, who both work at a Maryland college and are nearing retirement, claimed their prize on July 15 at Maryland Lottery headquarters. They said the unexpected windfall will help them buy a new vehicle and make retirement much less stressful by easing many of their financial worries. The winning ticket was sold at the Walmart on North Point Boulevard in Dundalk, which received a $1,000 retailer bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
