Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) has shared additional details and photos from the early morning house fire that displaced a Burtonsville family on Monday.
At approximately 5:16am on July 20, MCFRS crews were dispatched to the 14800 block of Maydale Court in the Burtonsville area for a reported house fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the front entrance of the single-family home with flames extending into the residence. Crews quickly knocked down the exterior fire before advancing inside to extinguish flames on the first floor and in the attic. Additional firefighters searched the home and opened concealed spaces to check for fire extension.
According to MCFRS, the coordinated response allowed crews to bring the fire under control while limiting further damage to the home. All six occupants of the home, including three adults and three children, safely escaped before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported, but the family has been displaced and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. MCFRS also used the incident to remind residents about the importance of working smoke alarms and having a practiced home fire escape plan. “Working smoke alarms save lives,” the department said. “Ensure every level of your home has a functioning smoke alarm, test them monthly, and have a home fire escape plan that everyone in the household knows and practices.”
