A stretch of Woodmont Avenue in downtown Bethesda is now closed to through traffic as WSSC Water begins work on its Leland Avenue 54-inch Large Valve Vault Replacement Project.
According to public safety and traffic reporter Cordell Pugh, Woodmont Avenue is closed between Wisconsin Avenue (MD 355) and Strathmore Street for several months while crews replace the underground 54-inch valve vault. Detours are posted via Bethesda Avenue and Bradley Boulevard.
The closure began on July 20 and is expected to remain in place through November 2, weather permitting. During the closure:
- Woodmont Avenue is closed to through traffic between Wisconsin Avenue and Strathmore Street.
- Access will be maintained for local business deliveries and residents of The Solair at 7077 Woodmont Ave. and Prenuvo Bethesda at 7106 Woodmont Ave.
- Detour signs are in place to guide motorists around the work zone.
- Drivers should expect delays and use caution when traveling in the area.
