Takoma Park National Night Out Returns August 4

The City of Takoma Park’s annual National Night Out Against Crime returns on Tuesday, August 4, from 6pm to 9pm at Piney Branch Elementary School (7510 Maple Ave.).

Held each year on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out is a nationwide event that brings neighbors, first responders, and community organizations together to strengthen police-community relationships, build neighborhood spirit, and promote crime prevention.

This year’s event will feature family-friendly activities including a dunk tank, moon bounce, twisty balloons, face painting, sand art, games, a selfie station, popcorn, ice pops, giveaways, and free food. Police and fire vehicles will be on display, along with Maryland-National Capital Park Police horses. McGruff the Crime Dog and Let’s Play America will also be part of the festivities.

Road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect from 4pm to 10pm on August 4:

  • Maple Avenue between Philadelphia Avenue and Lee Avenue will be closed.
  • Maple Avenue at Grant Avenue will be closed.
  • Hancock Avenue at Grant Avenue will be closed.
  • No parking will be permitted on Maple Avenue between Philadelphia Avenue and Lee Avenue or on Lee Avenue between Carroll Avenue and Maple Avenue.

Residents of 7513 Maple Ave. and 7515 Maple Ave. will not be able to enter or leave their residences during the road closure period.

Lee Avenue will serve as the detour route. Drivers traveling between Maple Avenue and Philadelphia Avenue will be directed to use Carroll Avenue and Lee Avenue. Detour signs will be posted, and no parking reminders will be placed 48 hours before the event.
