Bullis School is mourning the loss of Col. Lawrence H. Bullis, a member of the Bullis family whose decades of service helped shape the Potomac school.
A 1954 graduate, Bullis served as an Army officer and paratrooper before returning to the school in 1965. Over the years, he served as a teacher, coach, administrator, and ultimately Headmaster from 1980 to 1991.
In announcing his passing, the school said Col. Bullis approached every role “with humility, a deep sense of responsibility, and an unwavering belief in the school’s mission.” His leadership guided Bullis through a significant period in its history and helped strengthen the foundation for future generations of students, faculty, and families.
“We are grateful for his decades of service and for the enduring example of leadership, dedication, and quiet stewardship that he leaves behind,” the school said in a statement. Bullis School said it is working closely with the Bullis family to plan a memorial celebrating Col. Bullis’ life and will share additional details with the community once arrangements have been finalized.
The school also extended its condolences to the Bullis family and all who knew him, noting that his legacy will remain a lasting part of Bullis School.
