Rockville neighborhoods will once again join communities across the country to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 4, with block parties and community events designed to strengthen relationships between residents and the Rockville City Police Department.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. As part of the tradition, residents are encouraged to turn on their outdoor lights as a symbol of neighborhoods standing together against crime and drug activity.
Participating neighborhoods throughout Rockville will host block parties featuring cookouts, moon bounces, carnival games, giveaways, prizes, and opportunities for residents to meet their neighbors and local police officers.
According to Rockville Councilmember Adam Van Grack, neighborhoods including Rockshire, Horizon Hill, Twinbrook, Fallsmead, East Rockville, King Farm, Potomac Woods, Lincoln Park, Fallsgrove, Fallsbend, West End, and others will participate in this year’s event.
The City of Rockville says National Night Out aims to raise awareness about crime and drug prevention, generate support for anti-crime initiatives, and strengthen community spirit and partnerships between residents and law enforcement.
