MCPS to Implement “No Cell, Bell to Bell” Policy This School Year

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is introducing a new cellphone regulation for the 2026-27 school year aimed at reducing classroom distractions and keeping students focused on learning.

Under the new “No Cell, Bell to Bell” policy, students at all grade levels will be expected to keep their personal mobile devices put away throughout the academic day, from the first bell until dismissal, with limited exceptions.

According to MCPS, the change is expected to reduce classroom disruptions while helping students remain more engaged during instruction. The school system says it will share additional details about the policy next week, including how it will be implemented across schools.
