A man was killed Thursday night after the pickup truck he was driving overturned and crashed into two vehicles stopped at a traffic light in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County Police.
At approximately 9:53 p.m., 3rd District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel responded to the intersection of University Boulevard East and Colesville Road for a reported three-vehicle collision.
The preliminary investigation indicates a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on University Boulevard East when, for reasons still under investigation, it struck a guardrail, curb, two trees and a utility pole along the left side of the roadway. Police said the truck then overturned before striking the rear of two vehicles that were stopped at a red light at the intersection.
The adult male driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult male passenger in the truck was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The drivers of the other two vehicles were not injured.
The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. Police said the identity of the deceased will be released after next of kin have been notified.
