A large tree limb brought down power lines, damaged a utility pole, and sparked a fire Sunday evening in the Wood Acres neighborhood of Bethesda.
According to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, crews responded to the 6300 block of Avalon Dr., between Newburn Dr. and Massachusetts Ave., for a large tree limb that had fallen, bringing down utility wires.
Piringer said the fallen limb damaged a utility pole and power lines before a nearby transformer blew, causing the tree to catch fire. The incident resulted in isolated power outages in the surrounding area. Firefighters responded to extinguish the fire while utility crews worked to secure the damaged infrastructure. No injuries were reported.
