A driver was arrested early Saturday morning after Gaithersburg Police recovered a loaded handgun during a traffic stop following a large car meet at the Metropolitan Grove MARC Station.
According to the Gaithersburg Police Department, officers responded at approximately 3:48 a.m. on Aug. 1 to a noise complaint at the MARC station, located in the unit block of Metropolitan Court. When officers arrived, they found a gathering of more than 100 vehicles in the parking lot.
As police entered the area, many of the vehicles began leaving the lot and dispersing into nearby residential neighborhoods. While assisting with clearing the area, an officer observed a driver committing multiple traffic violations and conducted a traffic stop.
During the stop, the driver told the officer there was a loaded handgun inside the vehicle. Officers recovered a loaded Taurus G2 9mm handgun equipped with a 12-round magazine and one round chambered, along with three additional rounds of ammunition during a search of the vehicle.
Police determined the driver was prohibited from possessing a firearm. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit for processing and formal charges.
