Those eager to try PopUp Bagels in Bethesda will have to wait a little longer. The rapidly growing bagel chain has announced that it has pushed back the opening of its Bethesda location to Friday, August 14. The shop was previously expected to open a little earlier this summer.
The new location is at 7607 Old Georgetown Road on the ground floor of the Solaire apartment building. PopUp Bagels has built a devoted following thanks to its small-batch bagels and viral social media presence, earning millions of likes on TikTok. The company has also received national recognition, including being named one of The New York Times’ best bagel shops in New York City and winning Brooklyn Bagelfest’s “Best Bagel” award in consecutive years.
The chain, which operates locations in New York, Connecticut, Florida, and California, is known for its bagels with a crisp exterior and soft interior that are baked in small batches throughout the day. The Bethesda location will be PopUp Bagels’ first in Maryland and second in the Washington region, joining its Georgetown shop at 1078 Wisconsin Ave. NW, which opened in April.
Founder Adam Goldberg previously said the company began with a homemade bagel recipe shared among friends before growing into a national brand. “When we started baking bagels in my backyard, I never imagined we’d turn it into a national brand,” Goldberg said. “We weren’t trying to start a business. We just wanted to make something great and share it with friends.”
