Jon Lovitz is bringing his stand-up comedy tour to Montgomery County later this month, with a performance scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 16 at the Bethesda Theatre. The former Saturday Night Live cast member will take the stage at 7pm, with dinner and doors opening at 5pm. Opening the show will be Irwin Loring, co-founder of Give A Hoot Comedy Club in Gaithersburg.
Lovitz rose to prominence during his five-season run on Saturday Night Live from 1985 to 1990, earning two Emmy nominations and becoming known for memorable characters including Tommy Flanagan, “The Pathological Liar,” and Master Thespian. He later voiced Jay Sherman in the cult-favorite animated series The Critic and has appeared in numerous films, including Big, A League of Their Own, The Wedding Singer, Small Time Crooks, and Rat Race. His career has also included Broadway performances, guest appearances on popular sitcoms such as Friends and Seinfeld, and an extensive career as a touring stand-up comedian.
The performance also shines a spotlight on Give A Hoot Comedy Club, Montgomery County’s first full-time comedy club. Located at 16143 Shady Grove Rd. in Gaithersburg, the venue opened in January 2023 with its “Comedy For the Community” mission, using live comedy to support local nonprofit organizations.
Earlier this year, Give A Hoot Comedy Club reached a significant milestone, surpassing $100,000 raised for nonprofit organizations since opening its doors. The club continues to combine nationally recognized comedy acts with fundraising efforts that benefit the local community.
