A 20-year-old Boyds man has pleaded guilty in connection with a fatal drunk driving crash that killed a 71-year-old woman in Germantown last year.
On August 5, Brody Richardson pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court to one count of grossly negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle and one count of homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol per se. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 30, 2026, and faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison under the plea agreement.
The charges stem from a crash that occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 21, 2025, at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road. According to the Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Richardson was driving a 2021 Mazda 3 northbound on Great Seneca Highway at approximately 94 mph when he struck a 2018 Subaru Forester driven by Mary Elizabeth Moody, 71, as she was making a left turn onto Mateny Road. Moody died as a result of the collision.
Investigators determined Richardson had a blood alcohol concentration of .20 at the time of the crash. He also admitted to drinking alcohol and using marijuana before driving. Surveillance video and a receipt from Travilah Beer & Wine in Rockville showed he consumed five beers between arriving at the store at 6:57 p.m. and leaving at 10:17 p.m. Two employees of the store have since pleaded guilty to selling alcohol to a person under the age of 21 and are awaiting sentencing.
