DeAngelo McRoy has been sentenced to life in prison, with all but 30 years suspended, for the 2024 murder of 35-year-old Delondre Sawyer in Gaithersburg.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Sharon Burrell handed down the sentence Friday. McRoy will also serve five years of supervised probation following his release. McRoy was convicted by a jury in October 2025 of first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, armed carjacking and armed robbery.
Montgomery County Police found Sawyer’s body on February 8, 2024, in a wooded area along Game Preserve Road in Gaithersburg. Prosecutors said Sawyer had been sitting behind the wheel of a 2013 Honda Accord the previous day when he was shot in the back of the head. His body was then left in the woods and the vehicle was taken.
Co-defendant Quinnton Eric Brown was convicted in July of first-degree murder, armed robbery, armed carjacking and several other charges. Brown faces the possibility of life in prison without parole plus an additional 135 years when he is sentenced on October 1.
