Residents of Sligo Park Hills in Silver Spring are coming together to recognize a longtime neighborhood letter carrier as he prepares to retire from the U.S. Postal Service.
A GoFundMe organized by Adam Landsman has been created as a retirement gift for Mr. Fields, a U.S. Navy veteran who went on to continue his public service through a career with USPS.
According to the fundraiser, Fields has become much more than a letter carrier to many residents during his years serving the neighborhood. Neighbors describe him as a familiar and beloved presence known for his kindness, integrity, faith and friendly demeanor. “For many of us in Sligo Park Hills, Mr. Fields has been much more than our letter carrier,” the fundraiser states, describing him as “an integral part of the fabric of this community for many years.”
The fundraiser gives neighbors an opportunity to thank Fields for the role he has played in their community and help him begin the next chapter of his life. Organizers noted that, to comply with applicable law, the money raised will be presented to Fields only after his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service officially takes effect. The funds will be given as a personal retirement gift from individual members of the community.
The fundraiser encourages anyone whose day Fields has brightened or whose family he has served over the years to contribute or share the campaign as a way of thanking him for his years of service.
