A 56-year-old Crofton woman has been sentenced in connection with two separate felony theft schemes involving more than 100 stolen checks and a combined loss of more than $185,000, according to Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown.
Carolyn Rae Aldridge was sentenced Aug. 11 in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court after previously pleading guilty to both schemes.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, Aldridge stole 96 checks from American Builders Corporation, Inc., an Anne Arundel County home improvement and general contracting business, between August 2017 and January 2021. Aldridge worked as the company’s office manager and used her position to steal the checks, totaling $173,004.43, and deposit them into her personal bank account.
In a separate scheme between January 2020 and February 2021, Aldridge stole 13 checks totaling $12,291.85 from the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund while working as an associate in its fiscal department. Authorities said those checks were also deposited into her personal bank account.
An Anne Arundel County grand jury indicted Aldridge in June 2025, and she pleaded guilty to the two felony theft schemes in March 2026.
Judge Stacy W. McCormack sentenced Aldridge to five years incarceration, suspending all but 173 days, in the ABC Builders case. Following her release, she will serve five years of supervised probation and must pay $173,004.43 in restitution to the company.
In the MAIF case, Aldridge was sentenced to five years incarceration, all suspended. She paid the full $12,291.85 in restitution to MAIF at the sentencing hearing.
The Maryland Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the cases with assistance from the Maryland Insurance Administration and the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office.
