Two Stolen Handguns Recovered After Disturbance at Gaithersburg Starbucks

Gaithersburg Police and Montgomery County Police responded to a Starbucks on Quince Orchard Road Wednesday morning after receiving a report of a man allegedly causing a disturbance, blocking vehicles and attempting to climb into the drive-thru window.

Officers responded to the 500 block of Quince Orchard Road at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 and located the man in the roadway. According to Gaithersburg Police, he was hallucinating, told officers someone was trying to kill him and admitted to ingesting controlled dangerous substances (CDS). Fire and rescue personnel were requested, and the man was taken into custody without incident for a mental health evaluation.

Police said a search of the man’s belongings uncovered two handguns and quantities of CDS. Both firearms were determined to have been stolen from Virginia, and police said the man was prohibited from possessing firearms.

The man was transported to a local hospital for an evaluation. Following his discharge, he was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged. He was ordered held without bond.
