Campestre Chicken has reopened at after a kitchen fire forced the family-owned restaurant to temporarily close in January. The restaurant is located at 11400 Cherry Hill Road at the Maryland Farms Shopping Center in White Oak, a retail center that spans both Montgomery County and Prince George’s County
Campestre Chicken specializes in rotisserie chicken and Salvadoran and Latin American dishes. Its menu includes pupusas, fajitas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, birria, carne asada, seafood and several family-style chicken meals. The restaurant also offers sides including fried yuca, plantains, rice, beans and coleslaw.
Following the fire, Campestre Chicken reported significant smoke and water damage and launched a fundraiser to help support employees and cover immediate recovery expenses while the restaurant remained closed. According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, the fire was determined to be a grease fire originating in the kitchen ductwork. It was quickly brought under control, and no injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at approximately $30,000.
The small, family-owned restaurant says its chickens are sourced from farms in Pennsylvania and Virginia and prepared fresh daily. Local food blogger Nick “Mr. 8 That” Sevilla recently stopped by the reopened restaurant. Video from his visit can be seen below.
