A retired Baltimore City police officer from Kingsville is Maryland’s newest millionaire after winning $1 million in the August 10 Powerball drawing.
The winner purchased five quick-pick combinations at Harvest Fare, located at 2315 Belair Road in Fallston. He matched all five white balls but missed the red Powerball, earning the game’s $1 million second-tier prize.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the man is a fairly regular player who typically purchases tickets at the Walmart in Fallston. While shopping there on August 9, however, he forgot to buy his tickets and instead stopped at nearby Harvest Fare.
The following day, he checked the ticket while sitting in his car. He initially thought he had won a smaller prize before showing the ticket to his daughter, who confirmed that he had actually won $1 million.
The retired officer continues to work part-time to stay active and plans to use some of his winnings to pay off bills, including a recently purchased recreational vehicle. He also plans to take a trip to Florida for the holidays.
Harvest Fare will receive a $2,500 retailer bonus for selling the $1 million Powerball ticket.
