School Bus Driver Dies Following Medical Emergency in Gaithersburg

The driver of a school bus that crashed into a utility pole near MD-355 and Central Avenue in Gaithersburg has been pronounced dead, according to Montgomery County Police.

Police said the driver’s death is being handled as a medical emergency. No students were aboard the bus at the time of the collision.

Sixth District officers and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service personnel were dispatched to the area at approximately 3:04pm Tuesday following a report of a school bus striking a utility pole.

Central Avenue is closed between Poplarwood Place and Paradise Court as authorities remain at the scene. Drivers are advised to use an alternate route and expect delays. Additional information has not been released.
