Near-record heat could bring temperatures approaching 100 degrees to Montgomery County and the surrounding region this week, according to the National Weather Service.
High temperatures are expected to reach the lower to middle 90s across much of the area, with the potential for temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees by the middle of the week. Cloud cover and thunderstorms could prevent temperatures from reaching their highest projected levels.
Heat index values could approach Heat Advisory criteria Tuesday through Thursday. For areas east of the Blue Ridge, including Montgomery County, that threshold ranges from 105 to 109 degrees.
Similar heat and humidity could continue into Friday, although the forecast remains uncertain because of the potential for storm systems to move through the region. Temperatures may begin to moderate next weekend as a cold front crosses the area.
