Roaming Rooster’s OG Nashville sandwich has earned a spot on The Washington Post’s list of the “40 Essential Dishes of D.C.,” highlighting selections from restaurants across Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia.
The Post praised the sandwich’s buttermilk-brined chicken, seasoned with smoked paprika and cayenne pepper, along with its vinaigrette-dressed rainbow slaw and pickle chips. The publication described it as having “terrific crunch” and “stellar heat.” Roaming Rooster has three Montgomery County locations:

- 511 Quince Orchard Rd in Gaithersburg
- 11586 Old Georgetown Rd in North Bethesda
Founded by a family in Washington, DC, in 2015, Roaming Rooster began as a food truck serving free-range, grain-fed and antibiotic-free fried chicken. Its popularity led to additional food trucks and more than a dozen brick-and-mortar locations across DC, Maryland and Virginia.
The chain offers a variety of buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches with mild, medium and hot spice levels. Its menu also includes Halal chicken, breakfast served throughout the week, salads, wings, chicken tenders, hand-cut fries and other sides.
