An 18-year-old from Damascus in Montgomery County has been charged following a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred shortly before 4pm Monday on eastbound I-70 near Morgan Station Rd in Howard County.
According to a preliminary investigation, an Isuzu box truck and a Genesis G80 were traveling east when the Genesis struck the rear of the truck. The impact caused the box truck to lose control, strike a guardrail and overturn.
A passenger in the box truck, identified as 32-year-old Sakee Ali Davis of Havre de Grace, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck’s driver, 21-year-old Noah Ensminger of Elkton, was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Following consultation with the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, police charged the Genesis driver, John Amare of Damascus, with negligent motor vehicle homicide while under the influence, motor vehicle homicide while impaired by alcohol, negligent manslaughter and other related charges and citations.
Amare is being held without bond at the Howard County Detention Center. The eastbound lanes remained closed for approximately four hours during the crash investigation. The Maryland State Police Crash Team continues to lead the active investigation.
