Mauricio Casillas Leaving NBC Washington

NBC Washington reporter Mauricio Casillas is leaving the station to become a main anchor in Texas.

NBC4 anchor Jim Handly announced Casillas’ departure on Instagram, describing him as “tremendously talented, hardworking and always humble.” Handly wrote, “A class act is leaving @nbcwashington to become a main anchor in Texas where he’ll raise his family. Everyone here and @telemundo44 will miss you!”

Casillas joined NBC4 as a reporter in 2022. A native of El Paso, he previously worked at KVIA, the city’s ABC affiliate, where he began as an overnight reporter before becoming an anchor and executive producer of the station’s morning newscasts.

His reporting on border issues earned him two Associated Press awards, and he also received an Emmy Award from the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Casillas attended Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in mass communication. He currently lives in Arlington with his wife, Diana, their young son and their dog, Gigi. NBC Washington has not yet announced his final day with the station.
