Six Montgomery County Public Schools are among 37 Maryland schools named to the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s 2026 list of America’s Healthiest Schools.
Burtonsville Elementary School and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in Germantown earned All-Star recognition after meeting the criteria in all nine topic areas evaluated by the organization.
Sargent Shriver Elementary School in Silver Spring and Twinbrook Elementary School in Rockville were recognized in seven topic areas. Hallie Wells Middle School in Clarksburg and Redland Middle School in Derwood each met the criteria in one area.
The annual program recognizes schools for implementing practices that support the well-being of students, staff members and families. Areas evaluated include nutrition, physical activity, school health services, staff well-being and family engagement.
This year, 1,376 schools across 35 states and Washington, D.C., were recognized, an increase of 256 schools from the previous year. Of those schools, 200 earned All-Star status by meeting the criteria in all nine topic areas.
“Every school recognized this year demonstrates what’s possible when we prioritize the well-being of students and staff, creating environments where everyone can thrive,” Healthier Generation CEO Traci Causey said. “Their commitment to school health best practices is shaping a brighter future for millions of young people.”
