Montgomery County Police Officer Jayme Derbyshire Receives National Traffic Safety Award

Montgomery County Police Officer Jayme Derbyshire has received the Governors Highway Safety Association’s Peter K. O’Rourke Special Achievement Award for her efforts to advance traffic safety.

Derbyshire, a 23-year law enforcement veteran, was recognized for her work involving innovative enforcement programs, training, policy leadership and community engagement.

According to MCPD, Derbyshire developed Montgomery County’s Green Lab program for cannabis-impaired driving training and helped expand the program’s model to other states. She also supported DUI and DUID legislation in Maryland, advanced roadside oral fluid testing, strengthened training for prosecutors and officers, and shared her expertise with the Governors Highway Safety Association, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other national traffic safety organizations.
