Montgomery County will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, October 6, to discuss the new Clarksburg Library planned for 23200 Stringtown Rd.
Residents can join Department of General Services leaders from 6:30-8pm in the Rocky Hill Middle School cafeteria, located at 22401 Brick Haven Way in Clarksburg.
According to the County’s project description, the new library is needed to serve Clarksburg’s current and projected population. The Stringtown Rd site offers direct access to public transportation along Frederick Rd and enough space for a single-story building designed to provide greater accessibility and simpler operation.
The project received Historic Area Work Permit approval from the Historic Preservation Commission on July 29, followed by M-NCPPC Mandatory Referral approval on July 30.
The planned library will provide a full range of public library services, including materials for children and adults, reference and information services, access to electronic databases and the internet, and educational programming. A public meeting room is also planned for library programs and community use.
Collections will include popular print and non-print materials, along with resources supporting school curricula from early childhood through high school.
The need for library services in Clarksburg was recognized in the library department’s 1998-2003 Strategic Facilities Plan and a needs assessment completed in 2001. The County later reaffirmed the need through its 2013-2016 Facilities Plan.
The County describes the future library as a community gathering place connecting residents with ideas, learning and information. A construction or opening timeline was not included in the meeting announcement.
