The Maryland Board of Public Works has approved funding for two park projects in Montgomery County, including a major renovation of Fox Chapel Neighborhood Park and playground improvements at the Casey Community Center in Gaithersburg.
The funding is part of more than $9.3 million in grants approved through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for outdoor recreation facilities and land conservation projects across the state.
Montgomery County will receive Program Open Space – Local funding for a major renovation of Fox Chapel Neighborhood Park. According to DNR, planned improvements include a new playground, fitness equipment, sports courts, picnic shelters, a walking loop, benches, improved parking, and new signage.
Fox Chapel Neighborhood Park is located at 19700 Frederick Rd. in Germantown and is managed by Montgomery Parks. Program Open Space funding was also approved for playground improvements at the Casey Community Center in Gaithersburg. The community center is located at 810 S. Frederick Ave. and includes approximately 3.5 acres of outdoor space.
The Montgomery County projects were among nearly $3.3 million in Program Open Space – Local grants approved by the Board of Public Works on Wednesday, September 16.
Overall, the Board approved more than $9.3 million in DNR grants for outdoor facilities and land conservation projects across Maryland. In addition to Program Open Space funding, more than $5 million was approved for 12 projects through the Greenspace Equity Program, along with funding for conservation easements and state land acquisition.
The three-member Board of Public Works consists of Governor Wes Moore, Treasurer Dereck E. Davis, and Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman.
