Potomac-based Squeals on Wheels, a traveling petting zoo that has served the region for more than two decades, is transitioning to a second generation of family ownership.
Founders Jill and John Phillips are stepping down after 23 years and passing the family-owned business to their son, Tyler Phillips, and daughter-in-law, Diana Phillips.
Squeals on Wheels brings its animals directly to birthday parties, schools, community events, educational programs and other gatherings. Its collection includes mini pigs, guinea pigs, mini horses, tortoises, mini llamas and alpacas, hedgehogs, chinchillas, bearded dragons, goats, ducks, rabbits and chickens.
The Phillips family founded Squeals on Wheels nearly a quarter-century ago, growing the Potomac-based operation from a local venture into a traveling petting zoo serving families and organizations throughout the region. According to the company, all five of Jill and John Phillips’ children have been involved with the business over the years.
“We are incredibly proud to see Squeals on Wheels stay within the family,” Jill Phillips said in announcing the transition. “Our children grew up alongside these animals and our wonderful clients. Handing the business over to Tyler and Diana ensures that the same love, dedication, and high standard of animal care will continue for the next 23 years and beyond.”
As part of the transition, Squeals on Wheels has also announced that it will offer free delivery for all events in Montgomery County. Tyler and Diana Phillips have four children of their own, Dima Jonathan, Zoe Caterina, Nicole Charlotte and Max Daniel Phillips, who are also growing up around the animals and family business.
“Taking over Squeals on Wheels is an honor and a natural next step for us,” Diana Phillips said. “Tyler and I are excited to lead our dedicated team and continue bringing the joy of animals right to people’s doorsteps, while watching our own children carry on the family tradition.” Squeals on Wheels is available for private parties, schools, community organizations and other events throughout the area.
