Brad Bell, the longtime Maryland Bureau Chief for ABC7/WJLA-TV, will retire after 35 years with the station, according to DCRTV.
Bell joined WJLA’s news team in 1991 and has spent more than three decades covering Maryland and the Washington, D.C. region. During his career with the station, he has received more than a dozen Emmy Awards for his reporting.
According to WJLA, Bell’s notable work includes breaking the story of Pfiesteria contamination in Maryland waters. Before joining WJLA, Bell worked at WMAR-TV in Baltimore from 1986 to 1991, serving as a general assignment and State House reporter. He also covered environmental issues for the station’s “Project Environment” news segment.
Earlier in his career, Bell spent two years with Maryland Public Television as a State House and documentary reporter and producer. He also worked as a field producer for Independent Network News in its Washington bureau on Capitol Hill. Bell is a graduate of the University of Maryland, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English.
