MCPS is expanding access to specialized regional high school Center programs, giving eighth grade students additional opportunities to pursue programs tied to their interests while maintaining rigorous academic offerings at every local high school.
The Center programs are organized across five areas: Medical Science; International Baccalaureate, Humanities & Languages; Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM); Leadership & Public Service; and Visual & Performing Arts. MCPS is also exploring additional Middle College dual-enrollment opportunities in partnership with Montgomery College.
Families of current eighth graders will have an opportunity to begin exploring the programs this fall. High schools across all six MCPS regions will host Fall High School Showcases throughout October, beginning Thursday, Oct. 1. The showcases will allow students and families to visit schools, learn about programs and courses, meet staff and explore options based on students’ interests and goals.
Each of MCPS’ six regions, Southern, Eastern, Central South, Central, Central North and Northern, will offer a combination of criteria-based and interest-based Center programs. Find your region here.
