Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown has joined a bipartisan coalition of 25 other attorneys general calling on Congress to immediately regulate the artificial intelligence industry.
The coalition cited recent incidents involving AI agents as evidence of potential risks and urged Congress to require federal oversight of AI safety testing and standards, transparent government-led incident responses with public findings, and safety leadership insulated from profit pressures.
The attorneys general are also calling for international cooperation to control the pace of AI advancement and prevent harmful superintelligence. They want Congress to preserve state AI laws and allow state officials to enforce federal protections.
